Photographer…?

photographer (noun) :- a person who takes photographs

I am a photographer. I take photos. I am not a professional photographer, I do not earn my living taking photos. I am not a fine art photographer. I do not claim to be a photography expert or know all there is to know about cameras. I wouldn’t even go as far as to label myself as an artist, though I guess I create things which please me on some artistic level. I take photos because I love it… Sitting on the beach at 5am with my camera in my hand I am in my happy place.

I believe to take great photos you need good eye, and I also believe that all of us have it in us to be creative. I don’t think it matters what gear you are shooting with, if you have passion and persistence you will come away with something worthwhile. A camera is a camera, the real magic happens behind the lens. Nobody is innately amazing at photography, sure it could come a little quicker to some individuals, some people grasp concepts and ideas quicker than others, but passion and persistence will trump talent any day of the week. We all have to start somewhere, whether that be fumbling with chemicals in the dark room or producing blown out HDR images, all the great masters were beginers once. The people who go on to succed are the ones who are willing to invest time and effort in something, they are passionate about it, driven and are willing to do the hard yards.

I am not planning on becoming a famous artist, that is not my goal. What gives me pleasure is when I talk to another photographer or somebody sees one of my photos and it excites them or inspires them and maybe alters their personal view of the world a little bit, makes them think. That for me is a far greater reward for my efforts.

I am hoping to use this blog to record my personal photographic journey, what I learn along the way, and to help people see the world through a photographer’ eyes…
